Associate member and Top of the World

My DH and I are members- well technically DH is the owner and I am an associate on the membership.

My friend and I are taking a girls trip next month and I was trying to think of something special to do. I know that members and their guests can go to Top of the World, but will I be considered a member and allowed to go up? I carry DHs member card, and I'm not trying to get away with anything, but I wasn't sure if being an associate on the account counted or not. Thoughts? Thanks!

An associate does not get member benefits.

Sounds like a fun trip, DisneyDreamer! DebbieB is correct. Associates are given freedom to book rez's but since they aren't on the deed they do not get a Member I.D. nor the benefits therein.

Okay, that's pretty much what I expected but figured it was worth checking. Still lots of fun for us to do though! Thanks!

They usually ask for your Member ID card. I don't think Associate Members get an ID. That's why I bought my a 25 point contract in my wife's name.

Some benefits are available for family and friends staying on points but there's never been a published list on what is and what isn't. I'd agree that you could just give it a try although be prepared to not be allowed and then just head over to one of the lounges at CR.

I can say with absolute certainty that Associates do NOT get member cards. Only those listed on the deed are eligible for Member I.D. cards.

Last time I went up, they just scanned my Magic Band and never asked to see my DVC Membership card.

As long as the reservation says "DVC Member", chances are you'll be let up.

I'd definitely give it a try, especially since you will have your DH's membership card. If you are denied, as someone else suggested, you can just head to one of the CR lounges.

This is from the Top of the World Lounge - WDWMagic.Com

Access to the lounge and deck is available only to Disney Vacation Club Members who are staying at Bay Lake Tower using their Membership and is available on a first-come, first-served basis. This includes guests who are staying in the room with the Member. Access is also available to guests who are staying in a room reserved by a DVC Member with Vacation Points

Read the last line in the paragraph, may be worth looking in to if your staying on points?

According to this, as long as you're not renting the reservation, you should be eligible:

Oh great! Thanks for the added info guys! Sounds like it's worth the trip over to try. We're going in two weeks and it's not a busy time, so hopefully it'll work out. I was thinking it would be a nice last stop for a casual monorail pub crawl. Thanks for all the input!

And I think I'll also talk to DH about buying my own 25 point contract. Maybe not immediately, but it's a great idea!

That is what I referred to above although the problem is that it isn't defined once you get to the "some" part. Still think it's worth checking though.

So I know this has been discussed and posted in the past but here is the actual information about this "DVC perk" right from the member website.

Top of the World Lounge Access

Top of the World Lounge is located at Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort.

Disney Vacation Club Members staying at any Disney-owned-and-operated hotel at Walt Disney World Resort (whether they booked with vacation points or cash) may enjoy access to one of the vacation kingdom's most exclusive spaces: Top of the World Lounge atop Bay Lake Tower at Disney's Contemporary Resort through December 29, 2016 (blockout dates apply, including but not limited to December 30, 2015, December 31, 2015, July 3, 2016, July 4, 2016, December 30, 2016, December 31, 2016). Current operating hours are 6 p.m. to midnight.

This perk is available exclusively to Members and those in their traveling party who are staying on that Member's reservation. At least one Member in the traveling party must accompany the group and present his or her current MagicBand or Key to the World card with a Disney Vacation Club Membership notation in order to gain admission to the lounge and observation deck. If the Member's MagicBand or Key to the World card doesn't display a Membership notation, a Disney Vacation Club Member ID is also required to verify Membership.

It clearly says a member must be present to utilize this perk so it clearly is not intended to be avail to members friends or family that might be using the points instead of the member. As we all know sometimes they make exceptions to the rules and I would think the OP might not have a problem going up because she is both the spouse of the member in this case and listed as an associate member (as opposed to simply being a joint member/owner on the account) but I wouldn't want the many others who will ultimately read this thread to count on definitely being admitted. The website clearly says non members aren't eligible to access TOWL without the member present.

Just add the member to the reservation if you have available spots.

BLT is one of home resorts and we have stayed at that resort multiple times. Sometimes if the scanner works, they only scan one MB of the party. If the scanner is not working, they always have asked us for a member card. I would say over 75% of the time the scanner doesn't work as the working ones all go to the check in desk.

Keep in mind the rules now explicitly state a member must accompany the party for access to TOTWL. If you get turned away you can always monorail over to the Poly and go to either the Tambu Lounge or Trader Sam's Grotto for something fun to do.

Even if you had the occupancy available, the website clearly states that the member must be present.
As I'm reading it all you have to do is have the member on the reservation and a member of the party with the group. That's assuming the info in post 15 is the correct information. Sometimes implementation is different than wording and that may be an issue, not sure. But having the member listed in the room made under their membership with a member of that party in attendance would meet the conditions spelled out above taken from the website as I read it.
