Official 2016 Star Wars Half Marthon - The Dark Side Weekend

I am planning to register. Do you think this will sell out fast? I'm debating on whether to go ahead and sign up for an active.com account.
Yes, it will sell out fast. The inaugural SWHM at Disneyland sold out in 2 hours. I've never registered for a WDW race but I hear those sell out fast especially since there's not a lot of races on the east coast. Wine & Dine sold out in less than an hour this year.

I would recommend creating an active account. Your personal info (name, DOB, etc) will be prefilled and save you some time.

I'm thinking about registering for this race to get the c2c medal. I'm always super anxious about registration and afraid of not getting in. If you don't get in, you can register through a travel provider and charity. Travel providers usually sell packages (bib + hotel + park ticket) which is nice for out of town guests since you will need a hotel anyway.

I expect it will go pretty quickly - maybe not 30 minutes like W&D, but between the concept and the lack of a third race at WDW, it will probably be one of the quickest sellouts we've seen.

Also - got this email from Acclaim Travel ... if this race is important to you, I would call/email him and get on the list so you can be one of the first to buy when he sells bibs on the 8th:

@Keels - I am going to try and get early registration but do you think I should sign up with acclaim now just in case? Does he call and let you know if he has a spot for you before regular registration begins? Never worked with the travel agents on these. I have an AP and will be solo...so trying to figure out the best option to make sure I get in.

You may want to confirm with him how it's working this time, but basically, you fill out a form and give him all your information and a credit card and he starts a list. When he gets his allotment of bibs, he starts going down that list and charges your card. He let's you know pretty quickly whether you have a spot or not.

If you need a hotel, it makes the most sense to go through him - it's basically like getting an extended AP purchase period.

I am planning to register. Do you think this will sell out fast? I'm debating on whether to go ahead and sign up for an active.com account.

So I just did PHM this past year for the first time and it was my first Disney race. So I planned to register right when it opened at 12pm! Holy smokes! So glad I did it then! I had an active account but it was glitching (the site was not prepared for the overload of people) and during the process I made a new one. Active accs are free and tbh I like the active e-mails (tell you about local races monthly). I would create an account but be prepared to make another with another e-mail on the fly just in case. SO although it can be crazy I wouldn't get to worried depending on the race you wanna do. The first to sell out will be the challenge (Rebel, 10k and Half. It's the only way to get the third medal. If you do the 10k and half separately and don't sign up for it specifically together you don't get the third medal), and not only because its awesome but also because its Inaugural it will probably sell out within 2-5 hours. The half will probably sell out in one or two days. Then the 10k, and only because its inaugural the 5k may fill up. That's just how it was for the Princess and I believe this will be in higher demand. But I also think, not just because its the first race, but I believe there are people like me who have been dying for a Star Wars race and haven't been able to make it to the other side of the U.S. Now all the Easterners have a chance for a closer trip! So if you just wanna do the half, I think you'll be fine if you sign up the first day. But don't just depend on that. If you're nervous plan to register immediately. P.S. I don't feel like I'm exaggerating but some people may feel that way! Up to you! But the hype around this race already is crazy!

Good luck to you and to all! May the Force be with us on Sept 22!!

EDIT:
P.P.S.S. JK After reading some other posts...just register at 12, ha ha ha!

Thanks PrincessV, for the info! In the meantime, I'll keep reading along with you all! It seems like I'm the only first timer here!

Here is a question that I cannot seem to find an answer for. I have a friend who is an AP. Are they only able to register themselves and family members, or could my friend register me as well during early registration? If they were not running, could they log in and just register me?

They should only be able to register themselves and possibly kids under 18. Rumor is they are cracking down on non AP holders using the early registration and your registration could get cancelled. Probably not worth the risk...and the slots are very limited. They go very fast.

That's a question I was wondering too. I normally register myself but this race has me nervous.

They can register themselves and anyone in their household (same address). I've emailed Run Disney and that is the answer I received. So unless you live with your friend she can't register you.

That makes sense. Sadly my friend no longer lives with me. :P

Anyone know what the registration fees are like for the run disney events? I know it says the half marathon cost but what are the other fees? Just trying to plan ahead for the actual cost.

This might just be my first WDW race after 4 years of Disneyland races and I have a question for the WDW veterans...is it really important to stay at one of the "host hotels" so that I can use the resort transportation on race day? Is getting to the parking garage really as bad as the runDisney site makes it seem?

From my understanding the 2016 races do not have "host" hotels but every resort is a host resort.

There is no parking deck at WDW.it can be challenging to get to the start of the races in the morning depending on the size of the race. And they typically start and end at different locations. There are lots of hotel options at WDW at lots of different price points and there will be buses running from every hotel to and from the race.

Does anyone know when the AP purchase date will be? I've looked all over the AP site and don;t see any information.
Thanks!
