Can anyone recommend a) hotels b) a site to get the best prices for a 2 night pre-cruise stay? I am finding the hotel prices to be very $$$$$ Thanks in advance

Embassy Suites on 17th was great. Breakfast and evening reception included.

Dh just stayed at the Hyatt Place on 17th for work and he liked it, too.

Other hotels I thought about, and then saw while walking along the beach....

The Bahia Mar looked tempting.

The Hilton Marina is still on 17th but really close in to the water.

The Westin on the beach looked nice. On the map it looks far away but if you're willing to take taxis nothing is too far away, in the beach/cruiseport/airport area.

If you're interested in the beach, since you have a 2 night stay, stay on the beach. If you're just wanting a hotel, go with the 17th street ones if the price is better. And on your way to your cruise embarkation morning, if it's a day with a lot of ships embarking (check out cruisett.com for ports and what ships are there), even if your hotel has a shuttle, consider taking a taxi. We waited and waited and waited in the October humidity for a shuttle going to Vision, when there were two big Carnival and I think another (but bigger) Royal ship in port. We'd already paid Embassy for the shuttle, but wished we hadn't, so we could just catch a faster (and cheaper for the 3 of us) taxi!

We have liked Hilton Ft Lauderdale Beach in the past. We had problems with the Courtyard Marriott before. Depending on what side of the building you are on there is a club that plays loud music late into the night. It was not the best start to a vacation.

Ft Lauderdale hotels always run on the expensive side.

We're staying at the Springhill Suites Mariott Ft. Lauderdale Airport/Cruise Port for our upcoming cruise in November. We haven't stayed there before so I hope it is a nice stay. The price was good and they offer a free breakfast, free shuttle from the airport to the hotel and a free shuttle from the hotel to the cruise port.

I'll second the recommendation for the Embassy Suites. They'll pick you up at the airport, have a shuttle to the cruise terminal, nice pool, evening reception, and breakfast. Plus, pretty much right behind it, is a shopping center anchored by a Publix for anything you need to pick up at the last minute. Also, there are many restaurants within walking distance either in the shopping center, or a couple of blocks in the other directions.

If you don't care about being on the beach Hyatt Place is nice. You can get it as cheap as $99 through Value Trips depending on the time of year. They have a free airport shuttle and a shuttle to the port for $7 pp.
