Official 2015 Disneyland Half Marathon Thread.

So last night I finally finished my 5k dress! Please excuse the terrible photo of me...

It will ride up a bit, but hopefully with my running shorts on underneath it won't present too much of a problem.

@zanzibar138: OMG!! That dress and you look SMOKING HOT!

I. LOVE. IT.

Little update for me (before I head to the beach for a long weekend with friends and little internet):

Bought the last park tickets for our group today! I think that pretty much was the last thing we had left to do!

The three of us are pretty much closing out our last couple weeks of training, and are starting to look forward to the fun of the weekend!

Our next BIG goal? Getting B, the 8-year-old going with us, to ride Tower of Terror for the first time!

Aww thanks Keels! I hope people 'get it' on the day.

Good work on getting through your to-do list too! Mine needs work lol!

Enjoy your beach weekend :goodvibes

ETA... I'm desperately trying to resize that photo, but I'm about to lose my connection. I'll have to try again later :-(
Oh my god... that. is. awesome!!! You are so talented. And I love your Boo bounding outfit too, with the little Sully so cute!

Some park hours came out today... Friday 9-12 and Sat it said 9-11 and the only ride showing down was HM so looks like Space is in the clear. DCA is 9-10 Fri and 9-9 Sat w/ everything but the Blue Sky Cellar open.

Zanzibar glorious lady in Red! Love it!

Well done week#13 DDD! Best I have done in a long time the 4 miler at MM! Feeling good looking forward to rest of the training. One more week on this page and I get to turn the page to last one, and seeing how close it is. Ran 10 & 1's this morning breeze helped with the heat. Last night I carb loaded with yams they came through for me. How is everyone doing?

Thanks all! I can't quite believe I made it either lol! It's definitely not high quality workmanship, but from a distance I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out :goodvibes Just hope all my sewing holds together

I really can't believe how close it's getting now - the last couple of months always go so fast! Still doing well with my training - I'm really happy with how much my pace is improving for shorter runs, and I seem to be finishing the long ones nice and strong. My program only goes up to 16-18k before the event, but I'm happy enough that if I can finish that sort of distance strong, then I'll be ok with another few kms on top of that. Glad the yams worked out for you - yummy yummy too!

DH is on the DL. He hurt his knee playing hockey last night. He's done similar things before and the Dr's orders were to stay off it for 2 weeks. Missing 2 weeks of training at this stage sucks! I hope he's ok to run in September.

Getting closer and closer. Anyone know when they usually cut off the pre-order dooneys? Still haven't decided if I want to splurge or not. There are so many other things I want, lol. And DH is entertaining the idea of the WDW Marathon since there are still spots (mostly I keep mentioning until he gives in). I may sway him more if I tell him I won't spend money on a purse.

I feel like the Dooney's usually get cut off about 2 weeks before the event? I could be wrong. I don't pre-order cause I can't stand those active fees. The cost is enough on it's own!

I can't believe how close we are getting now and I am so behind in my training. Question for all of you. I started serious training pretty late, so I found the Hidgon training plan was shorter (Novice 1). But I'm about half was through it and just noticed that it has me running 10 miles the week before the half. I think Galloway has runners tapering earlier than this. This will be my first half marathon, although I've done several Disney 10ks. Do you think I should adjust this plan?

This is the plan I'm following, but to be honest I'm not doing the cross training. I'm at week 7 right now. I'd appreciate any thoughts or advice. http://www.halhigdon.com/training/51131/Half-Marathon-Novice-1-Training-Program

PERSONALLY, I'd be leery of running 10 miles one week before the race. I'd also be leery of not running the full distance beforehand, so I might not be the best source of advice.

My training plan has me running 6km/3.75miles the Sunday before race day, 10km/6.2miles on Tuesday, and a short little run of 3km/1.9miles on Thursday.

I like to be well rested on race day. The last week of training isn't going to help with your conditioning, strength or endurance, so it's not worth wearing yourself out. Also, don't forget to be mindful of your eating leading up to race day. You should be eating your full quota of calories with a good number of carbs for 2-3 days before, not just a big old bowl of spaghetti the night before.

Personally I wouldn't do 10 the week before, maybe 6-8. Anyway you can adjust it and get that 10 in 2 weeks before. I read something that it takes 2 weeks for a workout to benefit you. I like tapering way down the last week before the race, so I'm all rested and any nagging issues go away before race day.

Being that it's your 1st 1/2 I'd change it up. One suggestion would be skip the 10k race in week 9 and move the long runs up so week 9 - 9 miler, week 10 - 10 miler and then instead of the 10k race you'd have the 6 miler the week 11. This way you get all the long runs in but you also have the taper in week 11. The only downside is you miss the 10k as a cut back week so you'll have 7, 8, 9, and 10 milers all in a row if you're okay with it. If you want a cut back and are okay w/ upping long runs by 2 miles you could do the cut back in week 9 and do a 6-7 miler and then keep the 10 in week 10.

Thank you everyone for your input! I think I'm ok not running the whole distance before the race. It's not ideal, but that's my own fault! And to be honest, this is the most I've trained for any race, so I'm hoping the conditioning will help ...

I'm glad I asked you guys! :grouphug:

Bummer. Wishing him a speedy recovery.

I bet he's already built up enough of a base to get him through on the day though. It just might take a bit more out of him than if he hadn't had to miss training.

This is my first half too. Done a few 10k races now, so I had that as a base. The program I'm doing is a 12 week one which gradually increases the long run every single week (by about 1km). It actually worked out well that I accidentally started a week early, so at the halfway point I gave myself an easy week and cut my long run back to an hour. My longest run is 2 weeks before the race, and is about 18km (or 2:15 worth). On the taper week it goes back down to 1:30, and I'm even considering it cutting back further than that. I would definitely be wary of doing too much that final weekend before the race, but if you've already had an easy week, and you're still going strong, I wouldn't necessarily be worried about constantly building between now and 2 weeks out. I don't think you *need* to run the full distance beforehand either. Sure, it builds your confidence for the day knowing that you can do it, but I'm pretty sure that if I can run 18km, I can run 21km, especially with the extra adrenalin from the whole race atmosphere and people cheering me on. Mum only got up to 16km before her first half (which was part of a half ironman), due to injury, and she managed to get through the whole thing on the day.

I wouldn't worry about running 10 the week before the half. I recently followed (roughly) one of Higdon's plans for my first half marathon and it had me run 12 miles the week prior to the race. I felt great during and after the race and in no way felt like the 12 impacted my performance negatively.

That being said, running is different for everyone and you should do what you are comfortable with. I found that doing the 12 the week before gave me a shot of confidence that I could do the race. For reference my first 10k was in mid-April and that first 1/2 was in early June.

Best of luck whatever you decide to do!

I can't believe how time is flying! Next week we will be just 30 days away. I'm looking forward to finding out corral placement, etc.

For the 10K what Villains are y'all hoping to see?

Last year at Mickey's Halloween party they had:
The Evil Queen
Cruella
Maleficent
Queen of Hearts
Lady Tremaine and the Stepsisters
Hook and Smee
Hades
Frollo
Jafar

In all truth I'd be excited to see any of those. And I'd love to see the "Old Hag" version of the evil queen.

Maybe Darth Vadar in Tomorrowland with some storm troopers.

Excited to see what surprises we will find as we run through the park as the Villains take over!

ughh...I just realized that I may have screwed up my corral placement because when I registered initially (through travel agent) I had to tell them my half marathon time would be 3:15 since I didn't have a race to use for proof. But then before the due date I got a race in and submitted a 48 min for a 10k that the system told me is a 1:47 half....well, I believe that in order to get correct corral placement I had to somehow update the original registration time from 3:15 to 1:47 but I didn't know that and didn't do that. So even though I submitted a time that should have placed me higher - the original registration still probably says 3:15...so I'm gonna be last. son of a -----!!!!! Well, live and learn, I guess....I'll hopefully figure it out for the Dopey in Jan.

I don't know how it works with travel agents, but when I registered I just checked I could finish under 3:30 or whatever it had and then submitted my 1/2 time on their submit time site. There was no way to change the original registration if you wanted to that's why you submit a time. If you submitted a time on the rundisney site before the cutoff, you should be fine.
