Anyone else get "you're going again" when you announce your trip

Does anyone else get that "you're going again" when you announce your trip to Disney? How should I handle this?

I love sharing my Disney trip on Facebook, however I'm getting tired of hearing people say we are wasting money, and taking our daughter out of school to much. She will be in first grade in September, and is not suffering academically (how much does a kid really miss in kindergarten anyways).

Yes, I hear that. And I just shrug and say "yep, I'm very lucky". If they go on and on (and I do have a couple of relatives that do), I say "You go to the beach every year" or "you take your kids on a cruise every winter" "You go to the casino every couple months, how is that different?" and then I just drop it. Not worth getting into it.

I usually don't fault people for going so often, I'm just amazed at how they can AFFORD it. :D

I dont tend to get the "going there again" because I have not been for a while, but I do tend to get some anti-disney snobbery, more along the lines of "why would you go there when you could be going to (Insert another destination)". have to say, it doenst bother me a jot. I am lucky enought o have travelled extensively with my family throughout Europe and Asia as well as the US, probably many more exotic places than the people asking the question.

I will be back at Disney in 10 days time, I cant wait, my wife cant wait, my adut kids cant wait, my teenage son cant wait and my grandson hasnt got a clue, but he is sure going to have a blast.

We get this all the time too! Especially since our DS will be going his 4th time and he just turned 2. Those are the same people that come looking for help planning their trips whenever they go. We don't tell many anymore before we go but share after.

I agree with the jealous comments and people "assuming" it's more expensive. I always say "Yep, headed back to my happy place and can't wait"

We were supposed to have a non-Disney trip this year (WDW is not DH's thing so we do lots of long weekend trips with him on WDW trip years). I started pricing out the costs for a beach trip. I grew up at the beach and knew summer would be expensive but that is what we agreed on. So after looking at several options that would suit us, the condo/hotel rental was going to be upwards of $2500.00. My heart sank, if I was going to spend that much money I would rather it be going to Mickey.

DH had a change of heart and said that we should go to WDW instead :flower1: Caught a great deal on the summer hotel rates and it will cost us a little less to go to WDW than it would have just the beach rentals.

^^^^ THIS!

Next year we are going to start our family travel during the summer months because of school schedules. I started pricing out a beach vacation that we can drive to, and it's just as much money as Disney World. I'd rather have all the options of being in Disney World than to be at the beach for a week.

Nope, but I do get it about how I go to basketball games at my alma mater because we would travel to away games and such.

I have a couple of friends who have been one and done with WDW, mainly because they are more into other things. I have other friends who go every year. Some others who are cruise addicts and plan another while they are on the boat. I have some other friends who go to the beach a lot or the mountains (living in NC we have both). People may wonder how I afford it; but I'm usually pretty open that I get discounts and it takes me the better part of a year to pay for it.

One thing about being a widowed parent though. People tend to be glad my children get to go anywhere.

All the time!!! Do I care??? Nope :)
Disney makes me happy, I am lucky to be married to someone who enjoys it as much as I do.

We get this from friends and family members. I don't so much announce our trip as maybe mention it in passing. However, I just shrug it off. Who cares what they think? If I were going to the beach every year, no one would care. Just wanted to point out that these are the same people who are coming to me asking about planning their trip to WDW though.

We can get close, but the beach still winds up cheaper. For 5 nights on the beach vs 5 nights off site, Disney is going to wind up about $500 more expensive. Not w huge amount. The problem is trying to do WDW in 5 days. We would have to skip so much. So, when we go, we stay longer. OTOH, we can do 5 days at the beach & call it good.

So, for us the per day cost is reasonbly close, but the overall cost is not. BTW, try pushing your beach trip back as late into August as possible for the best rates. We have to do July due to DW's work schedule, but if we could push it back even a couple of weeks, there would be significant savings.

As for hassling people who repeat trips, I do tease my one friend who goes to the Caribean at least once a year. I don't try to dissuade her from those trips, but she has mentioned her husband really wants to go out West. So, I HAVE really encouraged her to consider it.

We don't have any kids and no one (other than our 3 Disney friends) understands why we would want to go to WDW every year. I got so fed up with explaining something they can't understand (since most of them have never been), I usually just say we're going away on holiday in September. If they ask where I say "The happiest place on earth!" I tend to not answer their questions after that since they come from the same people who asked me the same questions last time.

I especially hate when they tell me what a waste of money it is! Let me plan my own trips people! We do a lot of traveling and I've seen a lot of the world, for right now at least I just like going somewhere I know I love and having some care-free fun!

Now I can really shock them when we eventually have kids and I DON'T take them to Disney!! Who am I kidding, of course I'm taking them! :dumbo::earsgirl::earsboy:

Yes. And my reply is the same: "I love to take vacation at Disney. End of story. Until you start paying for my vacations, it's none of your business. Now if you're offering to pay for my vacations, we can talk". That shuts them up every time!

We have started to get that - my friends are surprised we aren't going this year (moving sapped up all the extra $$). But, I don't care - Disney isn't for everyone. I know who I can Disney geek-out with and who I can't and that's okay. :)

:confused3

YES!:charac2:my boyfriend and I have been going every year since 2012. we always get the look :confused3 really? AGAIN! but YES we love Disney! this year we are going in September with 12 family members so this should be an interesting trip!:thumbsup2

I would take your little one to Disney as much as possible while she is still young. Our children are older and it is so much harder to plan vacations around school work and sports. I wish that I had not worried about how much work they were missing when they were in elementary school.

As far as Facebook, I wouldn't post about my vacation on it anyway. I don't like the whole world knowing my business!:sad2:

I don't get it anymore, they just assume I'm going soon now. LOL. When I did, I just told them with 5 kids, it's an easy vacation.

We get it that and "aren't you tired of the same thing every year"? To which I reply it is a different trip every year, where we may see some similar things we at least see 10 new things a day or things we never noticed before (at least) and I don't have to rent a house / clean / cook / set up an umbrella / clean sandy things, etc. like they do every year going to the beach for a week. Usually ends the discussion or starts a new one with "well wait a minute, you mean you just don't go on Space Mountain every day and eat hamburgers / hot dogs each day?"

I get this response a lot. (sometimes from even my husband ) My typical response is "not everyone gets Disney but on the other hand I don't get why people enjoy watching cars drive in circles for hours either, to each it own I guess". They usually look puzzled and then the light bulb goes on. Everyone has their thing-- sports, car racing, rock climbing, competitive eating, _______, etc. Disney is my thing.

The money side of it is a whole other animal. I love planning trips. To me its a game about how low I can get prices. Sometimes I'll keep a spreadsheet to track rack rates compared to the deals I find. (mostly because it makes my husband happy) :bored:I fully realize that I will do things and endure inconviences to save money on vacations that most people will not. (All legal and ethical; if I have to tell a lie to get a discount I typically will not do it.) Friends will go to Disney a whim or at peak times like Christmas and then wonder how I can afford to go so often. :flower3: I start to explain and their eyes glaze over so for the most part I've given up.

So happy to have all of you who "get it". :jumping1:

Yes!! All the time!! Our last trip to DL was in June. We didn't tell anyone where we were going. I posted a couple of pics on Facebook when we got home and no one really said anything. It seems to be the comments come when people hear of our trip in advance, but not after we've already gone. Apparently that's the key for us! ( not that I really care what people think, but DH hates being 'judged'...Lol)
