Family moon, experience at disneyland, and upgrades.

Hello all! We will be going on our honeymoon/family moon in September staying at the Grand Californian. We got a standard room and view with me, my husband, our 2 young kids (1 and 3) and my mother all staying in the same room. (I know not very "honeymoon" like but when you have kids before you get married it turns into familymoon) We are bringing our mother with us and paying for her to go and stay in our room (that's all we could afford plus it will be nice for her to help with the kids) so we can have one date day at the park and a nice dinner at Napa Rose kid free. So I guess my question is have any of you been upgraded to a 1 bedroom or a suite because its your honeymoon? I would be totally happy staying in the standard room with all of us of course but does pixie dust happen? I'm hoping for that but I won't be disappointed if it doesn't happen. We got engaged there exactly 1 year ago (he proposed going over splash mountain) so we are so excited to celebrate our honeymoon there! I didn't see any recent posts about disney upgrades so I was wondering if that was a thing of the past. Let me know your experiences please!

We are staying 5 nights and I wish I could just live there instead! lol. 5 days is never enough Disney!

Upgrades depend on availability, so if the hotel is full the night you check in, chances are slim. The only time I've ever been upgraded at the Grand Californian was in September, though. September 10, 2001, to be exact.

We were upgraded for our disneyland wedding from a standard room to a regular room with a park view at the Disneyland Hotel. We've stayed for several other celebration occasions, and our wedding was the only time we were upgraded. It really does depend on availability, and I have also heard that you are more likely to get an upgrade on a shorter stay vs a longer, but it really is just luck. Hope you get an upgrade!

Oh, we check in on September 8th! So hopefully we get an upgrade!

That would be so magical! I'm hoping for some pixie dust!

We were upgraded from a Premium View room to a 1-bedroom suite at the Disneyland hotel during the 24 hour event and first day of the 60th anniversary celebration. Granted we only stayed 3 nights, but it was definitely a nice upgrade. And the only thing we were celebrating was my acceptance into the Disney College Program. It was definitely a nice surprise of pixie dust

Oh my gosh, How awesome! Congrats on getting into the College Program! So much fun!!! I wish I did that. That would be a nice upgrade for sure! I'm over hear dreaming!

I did talk to the hotel yesterday and a really nice lady on the phone said she could help me set up our one "date day" (since our kids and my mom will be with us) but I can let her know what day and time and she will have champagne and chocolate covered strawberries sent to our room. I love Disney! They are so awesome!

I love love love the Cast Members at Disneyland. We've stayed in 4 different WDW hotels and have never received an upgrade until we went to Disneyland. It was funny because hours before we left to go to Disneyland, I called to make a payment on our reservation and the Cast Member on the line was trying to confirm my reservation. The Cast Member said "Ok. You're booked in a 1-bedroom suite at the Disneyland Hotel right?" And I said "No. We're booked in a Premium View room.." And the CM said "Well, we have you listed as a 1-bedroom suite. They come with the premium view so that's probably what you booked." So I didn't think much about it and let it go. And when we went to check-in, the front desk CM told us that we were upgraded to the 1-bedroom suite!

Yea. I called and made a payment since we had a room-only reservation with my AP discount. Hopefully you get some pixie dust on your trip! The Disney Magic is definitely still at Disneyland. I've stayed at 4 different WDW hotels and have never been upgrade once there.
