Hey all I have been to Disney World many times and I didn't even know fast pass existed!!! I use to walk right by those kiosks, and not even know what they did!

As someone who's going to Disneyland soon can you guys help me?

How does FP- work?

What are the must do rides for it?

I NEED to see world of color and fantastic do I need them for that? How do I obtain them?

Do I need them for any character experiences?

Thanks I love you guys :)

Remember, Disneyland is the first park in the kingdom and geared for a 1 day visit. I hated Magic Bands when I visited WDW, as they restricted my visit. Yes, it is a pain to run and get the Fast Pass. But as a local who visits Disneyland often-sometimes after work on a whim, this allows me to be able to get a Fast Pass in the afternoon for a ride I want.
I am going back to WDW in July and I am sure all the Fast Passes for the new Snow White Train ride are already gone. If you work the system. You will get a lot done. Go early in the morning. That is my best advice.
The Disneyland VP today said that Disneyland would not be getting Magic Bands because of the local visitors. Enjoy Disneyland. She is a grand old beauty.

To get a fast pass you insert your ticket into the fastpass machine located next to the ride and a fastpass will be printed. You can get one evey two hours or sooner if the return time is before that time. The main fastpass rides at Disneyland are space mountain, Indy , splash and big thunder. Space typically runs out the fastest. At California adventure your best choices will be racers, tower or terror, screamin, and grizzly. Racers runs out the fastest. You can get fast passes for world of color and fantastic and they do not impact your ability to get passes for rides. The sticky will list all the tricks and tips that you need.

My husband and I prefer the get there early method and to use the fast passes in the afternoon and evening. One tip I ahve is to ride Indy early as it tends to break down often and takes a long time to cycle.

Please don't call it FP-. It's just FP.
Oh how I miss FP.

If you kept any maps from the pre FP+ days at wdw there's a tutorial on FP on them. Disney did their best to help us know how to use things on their parks!

DL can be a 1-day park if you want but multiple days are really great. There is no way to see everything in just one day.

You guys are just awesome thanks for replying!

Do I need a fast pass for fantastic or world of color before I read that massive thread by Hydro?

Yes, I would suggest getting a FP for both shows.

There are 2 ways to get Fastpasses for those shows - from the fastpass machines (as a PP described), or by doing a dining experience that includes Fastpasses. The reserved areas for the Dining fastpasses are, from what I understand, better viewing locations than regular fastpasses.

At Disneyland there are (again I believe) 2 sit down dining experiences for Fantasmic - Blue Bayou and Riverbelle Terrace. These experiences would get you the better reserved dining fastpasses. I believe there is also a picnic dinner type option, but I can't remember where that is from - but I believe the fastpass that comes with that option is a regular fastpass for the same sections that you can get fastpasses for from the machine.

At DCA, I know there are Reserved FP dining options at Carthay Circle and Ariel's Grotto. We did the one at Ariel's Grotto back in 2011 when WOC first premiered, and we thought it was worth it. I believe there is also a picnic dinner option in DCA, again that gets you fastpasses for the same sections you can pull from the FP machines - but I can't remember where that one comes from either. Wine Country Trattoria, maybe? I'm sure someone else can help fill in some of the blanks here for me!

Also, just to reiterate the other PP - getting a FP for WOC or Fantasmic does not impact your ability to get FPs for other attractions. WOC and Fantasmic are disconnected from the rest of the FP system, so you can pull a FP for another attraction immediately. It's also important to note that the Disneyland and DCA fastpass systems are not connected, so you can hold fastpasses from both parks at the same time, even with the same return windows.
