What a fabulous story going back to Blue Bayou :goodvibes I'm sure your folks felt the specialness of the event as well :)

It was wonderful, at 10 I was simply too enthralled with the entire thing to really grasp what a huge splurge that was but it made such an impression as it was, it's an incredible memory. Nice to have a new one to go with it!

Too cute Evan wanting to go on Heimlich's Chew Chew Train! I love when teenagers aren't 'too cool' for things.

I love that too. Generally speaking our kids are pretty good about that stuff, better I think than I was at their ages. Then again they DO love their Disney.

What a great story! I'm sure it was a huge splurge for your parents to take you all to Disneyland and Blue Bayou, and it's great that it's still such a special memory to you all these years later.

In retrospect I can't even imagine what a splurge that was. I will say, and can speak for all my siblings, it made a HUGE impact on all of us.

Wow! DCA must be the place to be this morning!
The crowds the entire week were ugly.

I did that at BTMRR one time... just trying to buy some extra wiggle room. But it definitely feels wrong. :crazy2:

It certainly looks delicious. And filling. :rolleyes1

Filling is an understatement. I mean really, they should charge a couple bucks less and skip the soup, no one can eat all that! But then again, the gumbo was quite tasty!

Ok, I'm going with Eric's facial expressions being the highlight of the pictures. But they were certainly good pictures of the 4 of you just having a good time together.

That kid can make some faces!

:rotfl2::rotfl::lmao: Oh my! He must have been craving some candy corn or something.

He wanted to do all the rides back there, it was pretty funny. I mean, why not?

That is just an incredible story. I'm so glad that you took the time to plan this meal and experience the location together... some once again, others for the first time.

For me, it was my only dining must do.

Hey, it just means that's one less meal you have to buy later. :thumbsup2

Theoretically, yes. Often for us it doesn't work out that way. Either we forget the leftovers, we never eat the leftovers, they go bad, don't reheat well, all kinds of things.

I just really love this. I think it is great that you were able to kind of relive that experience and share it with the boys. You really did a great job conveying how much it really meant to you, both then and now. And you didn't need any pictures, no matter how clear or how dark, to get the point across!

Aww....thanks!

That is such a nice story:) Disneyland is truly a special place.

It is!

How nice to be able to recreate that memory. With so many leftovers you can recreate it it twice.

Or three times...

DL is great for just bouncing back and forth. :thumbsup2

It is!

:rotfl2:for Heimlich.

I know, we had so much fun on it!

Heimlich's Chew Chew Train! We haven't been on it for over 10 years! I think I'm going to MAKE DS go on it with me next time we're there.

It wasn't there when the boys were there in 2001, it opened after that, and we didn't go back into that area at all in 2010 so it was a never done! Funny part is in 2001 we kind of lived in the bugs life area in the water play area.

You should definitely make DS go on it!

What a great recreation meal! I was in tears reading it. :flower3:

Aw, thank you! It is a special memory and was a very special lunch.

I had no idea the bakery served breakfast!

And a really really good one too! So good, I had it again when Ann and I were there for the DL Half!

Nice PP pictures!

I really like that set, it just captures what a fun happy morning it was.

It's hard to get decent shots inside the Blue Bayou. Nice you got to share your memories with the kids.

I imagine if I had a clue what I was doing with the camera...they'd be better. My mom may have some, I've no idea. The phone though didn't do much for sure!

Wonder what happens next? :rolleyes1

Why I can't imagine!

I love reading your first trip to Disneyland story every time you post it! It is just so magical.

Thank you, I worry I've told it too much sometimes but it is such a part of where our love for Disney came from and was pretty key to that lunch for sure!

I am also pretty sure that I first read it after I had met your parents in person. And I have to say that I can totally see your mom being up for a trip like that. And I would never have suspected that she was not the woman who gave birth to you. Seeing you two together, it was so obvious that she was your mom! :goodvibes

She is my mom!

How wonderful that you were able to share that special meal with your sons and your parents! I am sure that thanks to your history, it will become an important place for them as well - even if their Blue Bayou is called Teppan Edo!

I think it made an impression, I should ask them what the highlights of that trip was for them. It is always interesting to me to see what their opinion is versus mine, post trip.

Thank you so much for this info! I had obviously put this trip on the back burner ever since DH got his 'vertigo' weeks ago so after our Vegas trip, i'll be in full planning mode with this trip, so haven't planned which route to take yet. But Tillamook was definitely on my list (HUGE cheese lovers here!) And as much as I would love to go hiking, that would be a little difficult with DS. I'm also a donut fanatic so VooDoo is a must.

You will love Tilamook! And it's a great photo op :)

I think you meant to say, "Plus, do Alicia clothes shopping in OR..." :rotfl2: Totally happening too! I probably can't get much shopping done since we'll pretty much be living out of our car, but i'll make room in all of the consoles, glove compartments etc :rotfl2:

A girls gotta do what a girls gotta do!

Oh my this looks delicious.

It was!!!

I still haven't been on it since it's changed over from Mulholland Madness years ago! I"m sure it's the same thing, but it is such a cute ride that makes you laugh out loud for sure!

It's exactly the same, just some new signs lol! I kept calling it Mulholland Madness actually. It's super cute.

For reals? Now I have to know, has he been on this before and loved it so much to go on again? Or has he never been on and wanted to try it?

Never had been. He was 2 when we went in 2001 and it wasn't opened yet. We didn't do it in 2010 as he would have been too cool to even consider it at age 10. Now at 15 he thinks it's cool to check all the little kid stuff out. But you know what? It was fun!

Oh come on Cynthia, just add another 20 hours to your 80+ work week already. :lmao:

Seriously. Except then I wouldn't even be home to enjoy my overpriced art!

Very cool story!

:cloud9::cloud9::cloud9:

Thanks!

I must pop in and say I also enjoy hearing about your first trip with your mom and dad and the car ride. Makes me smile every time I read it. Don't worry about too much, it's a fabulous story :goodvibes:

Great updates and I am caught up!:Pinkbounc There are a lot of good food choices at DCA. I love the bread bowls of clam chowder and the tres leches cake. We have never seen Aladdin. It always seems to be playing at the wrong time for our schedule. Need to make it a priority next time.
I love your first Disney story I think your love of Disney was born out of feeling loved by your new mommy. So sweet!

What a fantastic update!!!

Loved your breakfast, even if it resulted in some "complications" later.

Goofy's Sky School, huh? Not a fan! :rotfl:

Good job on getting the FP for RSR at the time you wanted.

Heimlich's Chew Chew! That is really funny. Gotta do what the boy wants.

What a fantastic story and reason to go to Blue Bayou with your folks. I remember the story of the California road trip, but the lunch part is new to me and I see why this meal was so special to you then, and now. We were super full at our lunch at BB too because we overdid it on the bread.

:thumbsup2

LOL! I bet you don't like Primeval Whirl either?

They need to sell a half Monte Cristo option so you can still have the bread (yes, that was part of our issue too) and the gumbo and be able to enjoy your lunch!

Surprisingly, we all like Primeval Whirl! I can usually do it once a day. We did not like Goofy's at all. It seemed jerky. And not as much fun as PW. We were some of the first ones on it that day since it had just opened, so it wasn't like we were frustrated after waiting in a long line.

I think we easily could have split 2-3 meals between the 4 of us at Blue Bayou.

SO FULL!!!

:lmao:

That's too funny, we like Sky Skool a lot better than Primeval Whirl which frankly none of us get why anyone has issues on it lol. Agreed on the 2-3 meals at BB for the 5 of us and we are big eaters!.

The breakfast meals looked good.

$27 for a sandwich. LOL. It is the ambiance I guess. We ate at the one in Paris and it was fantastic there.

Sounds like a good time at the restaurant and good memories.

I thought I once read that if you split a meal at Blue Bayou they will charge you a split plate fee, but for that both people sharing get the included appetizer. Not sure that it is still that way, it might have been in my preparation for the 2005 trip that I read about it!! So, things could have changed in 10 years...

Fran and I split the Monte Cristo and still take home leftovers, but we usually go to Cafe Orleans for it and also get the pommel fries and an onion soup, then finish with the beignets. We take home usually two pieces but have our carb overload. We'll see how that goes in the future. :rolleyes1

Slowly catching up and I'm sitting here with tears in my eyes as you retold your memory of the Blue Bayou. How absolutely wonderful to go back to that special place and remember that very special time.

I cannot even tell you how refreshing and "special" it is to come here, to the DIS, to find like-minded people who just "get it". To explain to others that a place, a scent, certain sounds, all with the common denominator of Disney, can have such a mind blowing effect, is folly; they just don't get it. But there are those who do, and that is why I so love it here amonst those who can retell a story that never gets old to us, and who equally love the hearing of a re-telling and smell the same smells, get that same rush, and want a little more. Thank you for sharing such a special memory to you. That place also holds "more than a memory" for me. Similar in so many ways.

It's ridiculous for a sandwich no matter how good. Definitely the ambiance. It was worth it.

Oh interesting, split plate fees annoy me but I get it.

I would like to try the Cafe Orleans version. I did have lunch there on my DL half trip and LOVED it.

And I have to say...

I think I like their beignets better....

Did they charge you to split?

You have very special DL memories I know. It is all so much more than just a theme park!

All caught up! :thumbsup2

Hi Karin!

I need to do the same!

Hi everyone! I am HOPING to get an update up, of a very special afternoon, but have been absolutely plagued with computer issues both at home and at work.

Fingers crossed!

I am so enjoying your stories about your trip with your parents. The memories from your 1st trip and the chance to go back to Blue Bayou is part of the magic we all try to capture each time we are there! Thanks for sharing.

I'm playing catch up again but I think someone is cutting onions here at the office after reading your Blue Bayou story.

Did they charge you to split?

Well technically, I'm ordering the onion soup and pomme frites, and she orders the Monte Cristo. We ask for a couple extra jams, but since they don't "split the plate" in the back, we don't get charged a split plate fee. I just grab a chunk of sandwich off her plate.
