April vs August your opinion

We have gone both in April and August. We now go in August due to school and not wanting to pull them out. They are older though so the decision is different. We pulled the kids every year until 7th grade without reservations.

We prefer August over April, but we actually enjoy the heat and use the vacation as the last hurrah of the summer before the kids return to school. April was typically busier, but Easter is really early this year so that may be helpful with lowering the crowd levels. There are also FD and RO discounts typically offered in August that can help decrease the financial impact.

It looks like you may have already made he final decision, but thought I would throw our experiences in. Have a fun time!

I'll be there April 23rd - May 7th. What will crowd levels be like. It's a bit earlier that we normally go.

That should be a great week to go! Most spring breaks will be over...star wars weekends not started yet...and you can catch the end of Flower and Garden festival! Great weather most likely and low crowds! Have fun!

Sorry, but as a teacher I would have to say that school is the first priority. Missing a week of school is a pretty big deal. Parents ask for work to do while on a trip, but there is no way a teacher can give out materials that would take the place of the daily instruction.

Hey all!

Wifey, I and the kids are all set to go the third week in April but are having some second thoughts. Our 7 year old has missed a bunch of school this year due to illness and lots of snow days here in the NE. We will have to pull him out for 5 days of additional missed school. Besides that, we usually have more money saved by now and are kinda behind. I travel for work and our annual trip is based on earned airline miles, and hotel points to cover the bulk of the cost. The rest is paid for by fun monies and ebay which have been a bit slow. We are kicking around the idea of waiting to go until august and just looking for some opinions. We have only ever visited the World in the spring March- May so other than heat and hurricanes what's the major difference?? Thanks in advance!!
For us AUGUST is way too hot and muggy! I am from florida and moved to NC 20 years ago, if you don't love the HEAT and humidity, I would stay away from WDW in August and September. We have gone the 1st week in sept and I thought my DH would never go back to Disney. Standing in lines for more than 20 minutes when it's 95+ degrees outside in unbearable, if you are not use to that climate I suggest you stick with April.

Just a though, if you are already willing to pull the kids out of school why not go in September or October? There have usually been free dining offers during that time and the crowds are super low.

We love going in October for the Food and Wine Festival and Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party. Also, if you get the free dining it really makes the Food and Wine Festival worth it since you can use snack credits at the different food stands during the event.

Dads planner is showing all low to moderate so you should be in great shape, naturally the weekends will be a bit higher!

Once again thanks for all your in-site! we might just do October next year, looks like its going to be April this year. My wife seems to think that the heat is just going to be too much for my boys since they tend to get bad heat rashes so until they get older I guess it will be spring or maybe fall. Looks like I am down to rug cutting time, we just pulled the Disney box out of the attic and started taking inventory! Hope you all have a great day!

We are going this Aug and have been down there in Aug before (and Sept). I will say there are 2 differences:
1- it will be HOT in Aug (which we don't mind...can go to the water parks or pool to cool off)
2- there are less crowds in Aug after the 16th (April is spring break time, though the 3rd week- which you have booked- doesn't look bad)

I would switch to Aug, the later in Aug the better. We have had a bunch of snow days too, here in MD, and my kids are way crammed with catch up work so I wouldn't want them to miss anymore school than necessary.

I see you are sticking with April. At least that is coming up and you don't need to wait 4.5 months like I do...LOL! Have a great trip!
