Would you have pool heating during April? How's the weather?

Hello fellow UK-Disers,

I'm new to the forum. My boyfriend and I are renting a Villa from Virgin and staying from 19th April - 1st May.

My first question is would you recommend having pool heating? We have our own private pool.

My second question is what is the weather like in terms of clothing? Is it more shorts weather or would you bring some leggings or trousers as well?

Thanks in advance! I can't wait to go, i'm so excited xx

We went this kind of time April 2013 and we're flying out on the 23rd April this year. We had the pool heating for the entire trip, the pool would have been pretty cold without it I fear, so it's something I would recommend. It's the only time we'd been to FL and rented a villa (just usually stay onsite and have gone back to that) so only judging it on that one experience.

I did wear shorts most days but tended to take a hoodie or a crew/fleece jumper out with me because we are used to going in August when it's roasting and I do feel the cold. For some reason I prefer to put extras layers on my top half. I would take leggings/longer trousers then at least you're covered.

Thanks so much for your advice, i really appreciate it.

I wanted the perspective from someone who lives in the UK and is used to our weather :thumbsup2

Been 6 times in early April (7th coming up!) Had 2 days which were jeans and a jumper weather in all that time (65+ days). The rest - glorious sunshine. IMO you won't need pool heating. We have never had a heated pool at that time of year.

Clothing - I am taking a pair of jeans, 2 pairs of shorts and a short skirt. I will also taken hoodie and a couple of cardigans. You'll need a cardigan or jumper for the evenings, but the rest of the time you will be fine in shorts and tshirts. The jeans and hoodie are purely for the plane. FWIW I am always frozen here in the UK and rarely wear shorts even in the height of summer here.

Great, thanks. I'll talk to my bf and see what he thinks about the pool heating, but i know we can add it once we're there, so that could be the better option for us.

I always wear leggings, a vest top and a hoody on the plane. Fluffy socks in my hand luggage are a must.

BF is a cold sort of person so it's worth noting that he will probably want to bring something in case of cooler evenings.

It's really the air con in the evenings that you need a jumper for! Even at night it's around 15 degrees C.
Average temperature at that time of year is 30 degrees C - so I really would hold off on the pool heating unless you get some kind of freak cold snap.

Fantastic. Thanks Kath, i appreciate it.

I'm definitely going to bring a cardigan or two. If my upper arms get cold, that's it, i'm cold. Lol.

I plan on doing some shopping while there, so i'm not going to pack too much x

Hi you will have a brilliant time, we have been a few times in April and I would really recommend pool heating it will make it more comfortable and enjoyable. We have always worn shorts but take a hoodie for the evenings and the air conditioning. The photo on the left was taken in April and you will see we were in shorts.

Thanks for the input. It looks like everyone agrees on clothing but it is split with the pool heating. I'll definitely be having a word with my man to see what he thinks. I've only been once and it was in January so pool heating was a no brainer. I love to swim so i'm definitely going to be using the pool x

I would have pool heating. You might get it really quite hot but the weather can still be a bit variable in April. Bear in mind Disney heat their pools
In August! I haven't been in April for a few years but the photos show we wore shorts and swam a lot but also had some days with capris and hoodies. My husband says there were a couple of days I said it was too cold for me to swim and that was ina heated pool.

Thanks Scooby...yeah i know what you mean. We went to the Carribbean before and although it was baking hot, the pool was freezing and i didn't want to get in it x

I would also get pool heating - whilst April can be very nice and warm it is not been consistently hot for any length of time to heat the pool without heating. However I won't go in a cold pool or if it is less than the upper 80f outside!

I'd get pool heating without a doubt, we went 23rd April - 6th May in 2012 and didn't get pool heating, well I hardly stepping in the pool as it was pretty cold. Weather wise though temps were great mid to high 20's everyday and never needed leggings, jumper or cardigan

Yes have it heated. It's too early in the year for the pool to have any accumulated heat so it cools down every night.

Genuinely surprised by all this - we have been in late March/early April many times and never used heated pools? Maybe I've been missing out...!

Thank you everyone for taking the time to reply. You've definitely given me something to think about in regards to the pool heating and I feel much more confident about my packing choices now xx

I would definitely say yes to pool heating. We have been a few times at this time of year and have always felt it was necessary. Firstly bear in mind that it won't make the pool water as warm as a bath - it will just take the chill off it most of the time. But if you have a spa and intend spending any time in there it will be much more enjoyable if it isn't at ambient temperature.
